Obiter often issues call-outs for authors, editors, and other creatives. These include calls for submissions and pitches from writers, as well as calls for editors, designers, and digital creators to participate in collaborative publishing projects.

Experimental non-fiction

Currently closed

We will be accepting partial manuscript submissions for works of experimental non-fiction that demonstrate originality, creativity, and depth of research. We are particularly looking for works by writers who identify as diverse, marginalised, or outsiders in their field.

Submission requirements

All unsolicited manuscript submissions must include a cover letter, author profile, synopsis or abstract, and at least two draft chapters of your manuscript, including an opening or introductory chapter.

Submissions will be judged on the following criteria:

  • originality of ideas
  • research rigour
  • quality of writing style
  • creativity of form

What not to submit

Obiter does not publish or accept submissions for poetry, children’s or young adult books, or commercial non-fiction (cookbooks, travel books, photography, etc).
